Name: George A. Hertel Date of Death: Monday, October 27, 2008 Residence: Rome, NY Age: 76 Obituary: George A. Hertel, 76, of N. Crescent Drive, Rome, New York, formerly of Floyd died Monday, October 27, 2008 in St. Elizabeth's Healthcare, Utica. He was born May 22, 1932 in Rome the son of G. Arthur and Isabelle Smith Hertel. George was a graduate of Holland Patent High School. On January 16, 1954 he married Diane Montross. He was employed by the Town of Floyd Highway Department for twenty years retiring in 1994 and previously was employed by General Electric and the Rome Daily Sentinel. George served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Floyd United Methodist Church and was a life member of the Floyd Volunteer Fire Department. Surviving besides his wife Diane, are two daughters and a son-in-law, Greta Hertel, Albuquerque, New Mexico; Susan and Anthony Butler, Bradenton, Florida; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Russell and Mary Ann Hertel, Rome; Eric Hertel, Remsen and three grandchildren, Chad, Erika and Marisa, one great-daughter, Cayley, and a special friend, Kay Rocker, Rome. He was predeceased by a brother, Ronald, who died August 5, 1982. Services: A memorial service will be held from the Floyd United Methodist Church Saturday 6:00P.M. Interment Floyd Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Contributions may be made in George's memory to the Floyd United Methodist Church. Arrangements by the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George Street, Rome.
