Obituary of Cora A. Parmon
Cora A. Parmon, 94, of Rome, passed away on Friday, July 12, 2024, at Guthrie Cortland Hospital in Cortland. She was born in Westmoreland on September 3, 1929, a daughter of the late William L. and Florence M. (Bowman) Wadsworth. On October 4, 1947, she was united in marriage to Peter Parmon. He passed away in 1994.
Cora worked at the Rome State School from 1954 to 1984 in the positions of therapy aide and Social Work Assistant.
Cora was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her 4-legged companion, Maidie, was a comfort for many years. A special thanks to Arlene "Leenee" for the nightly walks with Maidie, rain or shine. Cora was always available for a game of pinochle, even if it lasted late into the night. Later in her life, that pivoted to jigsaw puzzles with June, Ginny, Carol and Donna. Her dinners were always available to be shared with whoever walked through the door. Her home canned applesauce and pickled beets were a staple. Even though a stroke diminished her physical abilities, her need to help others stayed strong. She always appreciated the cards and remembrances sent from friends and the Lowell Methodist Church family, most commenting on the tireless work the ladies at the church from her generation contributed to the many chicken barbeques, harvest suppers, election day lunches held at the church. Cora had a faith and trust in Jesus which assures her of a place in heaven. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lowell Methodist Church.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Bruce Maxam, Beth and Dennis Brooks, and Barbara and Chris Mooney; a son and daughter-in-law, Blaine and Chris Parmon; two grandchildren, Camryn and Alexandra; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Gertrude Fitch; and a brother, William L. Wadsworth, Jr.
Family and friends are invited to call at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, NY 13440, on Thursday, July 25th from 12-2:00 p.m. A service will follow at 2:00 p.m. and interment will take place in Westmoreland Cemetery.
