Obituary of Craig A. Carey

Please share a memory of Craig to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Craig Alan Carey,46, of Rome passed away unexpectedly on June 22,2024.

Craig was born on August 9, 1977 in Rome to Ruth M. Carey. He attended Camden High School, graduating in 1995. Through the years, Craig held several jobs from Oneida Limited Silversmiths to Turning Stone Casino.

In Craig's younger years, he spent much of his time at his grandma's eating pizza and playing Home Run Derby with his two favorite cousins, David and Ronald.  Sometimes you would find the three of them laughing hysterically over some silly thing one of them did. Over the years, they separated at times, but always made it back to one another and it was as if no time was missed.  Craig enjoyed going on car rides, concerts, and spending all day fishing. But his favorite thing in the world to do was watch the Buffalo Bills play football.

Craig is survived by his mother's, Ruth M. Carey and Linda A. "Lou Lou" Van Slyke of Rome, a daughter, Zikaila Marshall,  Rome, two sons, Kobe Enberg, stationed in Virginia, and Austin Carey,  Camden. Five aunts, Carolyn Prosser,  New London, Barbara Carey-LaPointe,  Florence, Debbie Carey,  Floyd, Patti Carey, South Carolina, and Kelly Carey Ross, New London. Two uncles, George and Debi Carey, Colorado, and Randy and Robin Carey, Camden, along with several cousins and extended family members. Craig was especially close to his two special " brothers from another mother", his cousins, David and Andrea Shaw Jr. and Ronald and Nicole Shaw.

Craig was predeceased by his grandparents, William and Mary Carey Sr., two uncles, William Carey Jr. and Howard Prosser, and the man he called "Dad" since he was 4 years old, David Shaw Sr.

A private graveside service will be held at the family's convenience. There will be no calling hours.

Memorial Donations may be made to: Caring Partners@community Health Services.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome NY 13440.
