Obituary of Evelyn M. Seaton
Evelyn Seaton, 98 years young, passed from the loving arms of family into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and the arms of her loving husband, on Tuesday, June 25, 2024. She was born at home in Knoxboro, NY, on April 9, 1926. A Doctor came a week later and recorded her birth date of April 16, 1926, a daughter of Harvey and Florence (Murfit) Moot. She graduated from Vernon-Verona High School, Class of 1944. ON February 6, 1946, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Daniel E. Seaton. He was taken into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior on August 13, 1973. They had two children, Daniel Jr. and Brenda.
Over the years Evelyn was employed by Smith-Lee Bottle Cap in Oneida, NY, Rome Cable during World War II and later at a laundry in Rome. She also worked in many private homes as a domestic worker. Most important to her was her role as mother to her two children.
Evelyn served as Sunday School Superintendent at Ava Methodist Church under Rev. Luther Meakins and Rev. Albert Hollis. She also taught religious education class at West Leyden Central School for a number of years. Everlyn was a was a member and served as Treasurer of the Kings Sons and Daughters of Rome, NY, under Rev. Chester Logue. She was also a member of the Golden Years of Rome. She attended the first Free Methodist Church of Rome under Rev. Frank Dombrowski, Jr.
Evelyn also enjoyed in helping in Vacation Bible School at Ava Methodist Church, transporting many car loads of children to and from the Bible School, as well as assisting in teaching in class. She was involved in the Ava MYF Youth Groups , helping and sponsoring numerous activities and for several years transported youth from Ava to Deer Trail Ranch in Pennsylvania, a Christian ranch, bible instruction and horseback riding.
Evelyn was a longtime member of the Lee Center Senior Citizen Group and looked forward to their meetings and participating in a great many of their trips and luncheons. She was a also a devoted member of the Lee Center Lee Sure Walkers Club. She spent many hours visiting those in nursing homes and sending cards for any and all occasions.
The family wishes to extend our loved and appreciation to the Angels of Rome Hospital 2 East. You know who you are and we love and thank you for your kindness and gentle care of our beloved mother. Also, a thank you to Dr. Humayun for your kindness and concern for our mother. Special thank you to longtime friend, Billie Mernick. Your constant prayers, cards, phone calls, wishes and support and faithful prayer warrior. Also, thank you to a more recent friend, Nancy Sweinton for your constant prayers, calls and for being a prayer warrior.
Evelyn is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Daniel Jr. and Millie Seaton; her daughter, Brenda Groff; four grandchildren, Daniel Seaton, David Seaton (Tammy), Theresa Bove and Tammy Kelly (Mike); seven great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews; and her loving feline, Baby Princess. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Daniel; and her loving son-in-law, Thomas Groff.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 1st at 10:30 a.m. at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome NY 13440. Interment will take place at Carmichael Hill Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., on Sunday June 30th from 2-4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Evelyn’s memory to one her many favorite charities: Adopt a Platoon, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Shriners, Salvation Army, Rome Rescue Mission, Ava Hilltop Methodist Church, Hospice and Palliative Care or the Humane Society of Rome.
