Obituary of James W. Kimmel
James (Jim) W Kimmel Jr 93 formally from Rome NY passed away on June 13th 2024 in Orange City Florida. He was born in Rome NY in 1931 and was the son of the late James and Alberta (Walter) Kimmel Sr. Jim was a long-time member of the North Bay Volunteer Fire Department and held the position of Asst Fire Chief and Fire Chief for several years. Jim worked at Revere Copper Products for over 39 years before retiring in 1989. He also worked at Oneida Limited and General Electric for several years.
Jim is survived by his wife of more than 70 years Ellen (Schiffer) Kimmel and their children Linda (David) Evans (VA), James (Susan) Kimmel III (NY), Kenneth (Mary Ann) Kimmel (NY) Michael Kimmel (NY) Mary (Ric) Strouse (SC) Carol (Nick) Spataro (FL) , 18 grandchildren and more than 25 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his brother Robert Kimmel. He is survived by sisters Susan (Nathaniel)Jones (TX) and Kathleen (David) Wolcott (NY). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He lived a life of strong work ethic. He was a master of fixing things and helping others with handyman questions. Jim loved spending many years in Myrtle Beach SC. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time at the McConnellsville Country Club.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, NY 13440. He will be interred at St Mary’s cemetery in a private family gathering. Jim’s dedication to his volunteer firework was unwavering.
