Obituary of Isabel Nerschook
Isabel T. Nerschook age 94 of Rome NY, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on June 2, 2024 at the Sitrin Health Care Center.
She was born in Teaneck, NJ, on January 18 1930. Graduated from St. Barnabas High School and became employed at ATT in NYC. She then married Daniel Nerschook and traveled the states together as Daniel was active duty in the military.
Settled in Rome NY, where they raised four children and were long time members of St Paul’s Roman Catholic Church. Isabel was employed at Rome Savings Bank, a medical office then retiring from Rome Memorial Hospital as a Switch Board Operator/ Receptionist after 15 years of service.
Isabel’s devotion for volunteering throughout her life began with the position of President of the Field Maintenance Military Wives Club. She continued to offer her services in Rome with St. Mary’s School, Rome Catholic High School, St. Thomas Church GAFB, confirmation classes at St. Paul’s Church and Rome Voluntary Action. Isabel volunteered in her neighborhood as Vice President then President of the community center and Pool. Served for many years as the neighborhood captain for the American Cancer Society’s annual fundraising campaign. Isabel found great fulfillment as an assistant den mother for the Boy Scouts, Brownie and Girl Scout Leader then Troop Organizer for leaders. The most memorable time for many years was the family dining room full of Girl Scout cookies from floor to ceiling ready to be delivered to the community.
Surviving are her children and son in law; Maureen, Eileen, James, Kathleen and Earl. Cherished grandchildren; Kristen, Danielle (Greg), Aaron (Madison), Alayna and Michela (Charles); five great grandchildren and multiple generations of loving nieces and nephews. Special family friend Debbie. Beloved family dog Stella remained a constant companion for mom.
She was predeceased by her parents Isabel and David, husband Daniel, brother David and sister Audrey.
Isabel’s family wishes to thank nurse Taylor and the staff at Sitrin Health Care Aspen House for the wonderful care and compassion they gave mom.
We welcome family and friends to join us for visitation at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home Inc. 418 N George St, Rome NY 13440, on Friday, June 7th, from 10-11:00 a.m., with a service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery Turin Road Lee Center NY to follow.
