Obituary of Dolores A. DeCarolis

Dolores Amelia DeCarolis of Rome, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, May 31, 2024, after a brief battle with cancer. She was born September 4, 1940, in Rome, NY, a daughter of the late Patsy and Amelia (Molly) Carro. She was a graduate of Rome Free Academy and on July 20, 1957, she was united in marriage to Andrew P. DeCarolis in St. John the Baptist Church in Rome, NY.

Dolores worked at the Rome State School for many years and owned and operated DeCarolis Motor Sales for 63 years. She also helped run the Washington Meat Market and Andy’s Diner. She loved working with her beloved husband for many years.

Mom enjoyed sending cards to cheer up family and friends. She loved her time every year in Florida, going to Bike Week and boating with her family. Mom looked forward to going to Bingo with Candi and especially spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Dolores is survived by two daughters, Patricia Wuthrich (John) and Mary Smith (Fred); three sons, Andrew (Jenny), Aqulino “Bill” (Crystal) and Samuel “Stick”; sister-in-law, Antoinette Rossi; brother-in-law, Paul DeCarolis (Thay); fourteen cherished grandchildren, Andy DeCarolis, Bryan DeCarolis, Katrina Dietrick (John), John Wuthrich (Jessica), Heather DeCarolis, Amanda DeCarolis, Selena DeCarolis, Ross DeCarolis, Kristin DeCarolis, Stephanie (Chris), Sammy, Joey, Freddy Smith (Stephanie) and Kelly Iodice (Antonio); twenty-five precious great-grandchildren, Madison, Santino, Kayda, Hans, Johny, Sophia, Dawson, Joyce, Harper, Gianna, Annika, Elianna, Annabella, Anthony, Adrianna, Victor, Isabella, Freddy, Giovanna, Angelina, Antonio, Alessia, Vincenzo, Antonino and Giovanno; and several nieces and nephews, including special nieces, Suzanne Seymour, Donna Carro Mahmood and Nancy Kolasz; and special friends, Jean Wuthrich, Diane Borman and Patty Brognano Grillone. She was predeceased by her sister, Philomenia Carro; three brothers, James (Shirley), Patsy (Claire) and  John Carro (Judy); aunts, Theresa Mecca, Mary Brown and Gloria Serris; uncles, Donald Sisto and Henry Fiorini;  brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Servio Rossi, Margaret Kolasz (Stan), Dominick DeCarolis (Anise), Vincent DeCarolis, Jake DeCarolis (Penny), Mary Bogden (Bill), Beatrice Winterbottom (Matt), Louise Mirachi, Matilda Carinci (James), Sue Buttacavoli (Frank) and Gary Rushford.

Dolores’s family would like to thank Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., for their wonderful care and compassion.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 5th at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, 210 E. Dominick St., Rome NY 1340. Interment will take place in St. John’s Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome NY 13440, on Tuesday, June 4th from 4-8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Dolores’s memory to Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
