Obituary: Joseph (Joe) Swerediuk, 92, of 801 N. James Street, formerly of Lawrence Street, Rome, died Tuesday, October 14, 2008, in Stonehedge Nursing Home after a long illness.
He was born May 1, 1916 in Wilkes Bare, Pennsylvania the son of Vladimir and Katherine Ivaniew Swerediuk.
Mr. Swerediuk was a graduate of Rome Schools.
He was employed at Rome Developmental Center for several years and previously was employed at General Cable Corporation.
Joe served in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theatre.
He was a member of the American-Ukrainian Veterans , Inc.
Surviving are two sisters, Ann Konowich, Rome; Helen Chilkotowsky, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Andrew and Gladys Swerediuk, Whitesboro; Michael (Mike) and Rose Swerediuk, Rome; John and Cathy Swerediuk, St. Petersburg, Florida; a sister-in-law, Janice Swerediuk, Verona; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Giardino, Sophie Jones, and a brother, Thomas (Sam) Swerediuk.

Services: Funeral services will be held Friday 11:00 A.M. at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George Street, Rome. Interment Rome Cemetery. Friends may call Friday at the funeral home from 10:00A.M. to 11:00A.M. Contributions may be made in Joe's memory to the Welcome Hall Community Center.
