Name: Clarence L. Yocum Date of Death: Saturday, May 05, 2007 Residence: Rome, NY Age: 65 Obituary:Clarence L. Yocum, 65, of Floyd, passed away at home on Saturday, May 5, 2007 with his loving family by his side. He was born in Marcy on May 2, 1942, the son of Rosemond Sexton Yocum and the late Donald Yocum. He graduated from Holland Patent Central School where he met and later married Marilyn Hartson Yocum. Besides his wife Marilyn, he is survived by a daughter, Sandra Yocum, New Hartford; two sons and daughter-in-law, James Yocum, Floyd and Thomas and Laura Yocum, Marcy; two grandchildren, Joel and Sydney Yocum; his mother, Rosemond Yocum, Barneveld; a sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and James Ballard of Barneveld; a brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Carol Yocum, Barneveld; mother-in-law, Eleanor Hartson, Ava; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Clarence entered the US Army upon graduation from high school. While stationed in Fort Lee, Virginia, he attended Quarter Master School where he majored in Petroleum Products Analysis. He was with the 7th Logistical Command in Korea from March 1961 until June 1962 where he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service. With an honorable discharge from the military, he accepted a position with Amarada Hess Corporation. Upon completion of twenty years of service with Amarada Hess Corp., he became the owner operator of Mundy Contractors, Marcy, NY. He was a fifteen year member and Line Officer with the Floyd Volunteer Fire Department and had been an active member of the Floyd Boy Scout Troop 56, Pack 51. As an avid NASCAR fan, he enjoyed attending races throughout the past several years. Other interest included fishing, snowmobiling and activities with his beloved grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the many friends and family members for their support through cards, visits and phone calls during his illness. Services: Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 8, 2007 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George Street, Rome. Funeral services will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 400 N. George St.., Rome on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at the Holland Patent Cemetery. Contributions may be made in Clarence's memory to the Rome First United Methodist Church Building Fund, Floyd Volunteer Fire Department or Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc.
