Obituary of Edward E. Hill
Edward E. Hill, 86, of Point Rock, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 10, 2023, at Wynn Hospital in Utica.
Ed’s life is a story of an adventurous man fiercely devoted to his family. He was born on December 23, 1936 in Camden, NJ to the late Ella (Lewis) and Earl Hill. His days of adventure began early in Berlin, Germany where Ed’s love of firearms and history was born after he discovered a forgotten WWII bazooka. This passion only grew as he drove to closed German castles and witnessed the Berlin Airlift in 1948.
After moving back home, Ed joined the United States Air Force, where he served from
1955-1962 as Staff Sergeant in the 174th Tactical Fighter Wing. He spent one year in Morocco as a bomber, loading explosives onto trains every Wednesday. After an 18 year break, Ed continued serving his country in the National Guard, participating in both Operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield in Iraq.
In 1969, Ed was introduced to his wife, Marie, after scooping her daughter from a snowbank. The two married on August 22, 1970, spreading roots in Point Rock, New York. Ed loved hiking, hunting, and camping, especially with his daughters. Eventually, he would build a cabin in the heart of Point Rock, which often welcomed friends and family from all over.
Ed was a dedicated worker for 28 years at Revere Copper and Brass Co, where he met many lifelong friends, before retiring in 1996. The object of his pride was the Point Rock Gun Shop, which he owned and operated for 26 years. Through the Point Rock Gun Shop, Ed fostered lasting relationships with members of the community, sharing his love for firearms. He especially enjoyed sharing this passion with his closest friends, including Gary Nielson Jr. and Carl Finster to name a few. He was also a member of the Point Rock Fish and Game Club, the National Rifle Association, Adirondack Muzzle Loaders, and the Lee American Legion.
Surviving besides his loving wife, Marie, are daughters, Donna Michik, Laura Hash-Davis (Brad), Nina-Marie Sayre (Paul), Heidi Lynn Rosinski (Stephen), and Jennifer Sletten (Michael); his half-brother, Charles Brown; six grandchildren, Amanda, Kyle and Holly Hash, Eddie and Aaron Michik, and Tessa Sayre; two great-grandchildren, Karter and Vera; and several nieces and nephews, including William Hill (Dee). He was predeceased by a brother, Ronald Hill.
Ed’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Mohawk Glen Dialysis for the compassion and care they provided him for over three years.
