Obituary of Shane D. Carelli
Shane D. Carelli, 52 of Rome lost his battle with addiction on October 17, 2023. Born in Rome he was the son of Cynthia and Domenico (Danny) Carelli of Bronx, New York. He was predeceased by his mother Cynthia Carelli and leaves behind a son Shane R. Carelli. He was a son, father, friend; and he was loved. Many knew Shane as the "guy who rode the best wheelies." He enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, dirt bikes, and four wheelers. His greatest accomplishment in life was the birth of his son; Shane. He had aspirations, dreams, loved music, was funny and smart. All of that went away when he began to use drugs and alcohol. Like many he began his battle with addiction as a teenager. He used for fun, to fit in, to cope, to survive. As life went on it escalated until he was addicted, homeless, and alone. Over the course of his life, he had been in numerous rehabilitation centers for help. Despite many interventions he continued to use, he lost everything; he was sick and tortured due to his addiction. Addiction isn't a secret and pretending it isn't happening won't make it go away. It's a devastating disease that takes hostages; ruins lives; the addict and those left behind to pick up the pieces. May his death not be in vain; and others get the help they need, to stop hurting themselves and others. May he rest in peace. May his family and friends finally find peace. If you or someone you love is struggling with addiction help is available through the SAMHSA National Helpline at 1-800-662-4357. The family asks that donations be made to the Center for Family Life and Recovery or the Rome Rescue Mission.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Arrangements have been entrusted to Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome NY 13440. You may view the obituary and send a message of sympathy at www.nunnandharper.com.
