Obituary of Yvonne M. Bergin

Please share a memory of Yvonne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Yvonne Bergin passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2023, after a long battle with cancer. She was the daughter of Francis and Teresa (Gilsenan) Bergin. Yvonne came to the United States from Ireland when she was little girl. The family lived in Camden. Yvonne graduated from Camden High School and lived in Oswego for many years while working at the James A. Fitzpatrick Nuclear Power Plant, a job she loved. When she retired, Yvonne returned to Camden. She was previously married to Laird Petrie of Camden. She leaves her son, Jeremy Petrie and Kathryn Craft, and her daughter Shannon Petrie Tanner and her husband, Brad. She also leaves the loves of her life, her grandchildren, Noah Petrie, Maddy and Zachary Burdick, Devin and Leah Tanner, and Charlie and Felix Petrie. They all owned her heart.

She is also survived by two brothers, Brian Bergin and his wife, Debra, and Frank Bergin and his wife, Pat Stace; a sister, Valerie “Chickie” Smith and her husband, Bob; many nieces and nephews who were all an important part of Yvonne’s life and wanted them all remembered: Brendon Bergin (Anna), Colin Bergin (Lauren), Jason Bergin (Jill), Lindsay Bergin Pritchard (Matt Fanelli), Kiley Bergin (Chrissy Lynn), Talie Sullivan (Jack), Daniel Smith, Michelle Smith whom predeceased her, Jan Petrie, Amy Petrie and Katy Petrie Hogan, and their families; also, Casey Cook, Benson Cook and Maggie Cook Hann (Rickey), Brianne Petrie Artis (Keith), Logan Petrie (Brianna), Joselyn Petrie, and Joey Desormeau, who’s mom, Susan Petrie Desormeau, passed away in 1986. Yvonne loved them and their children very much.

Yvonne also wanted to mention her very best friend whom she loved like a sister, Nanette Teifke. Thank you, Nanette, for all you did for Mom; you made her laugh every day.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Yvonne’s memory to Freedom Park in Camden. Yvonne worked very hard for Freedom Park and loved writing the stories of the fallen each day on Facebook. She never wanted any of them to be forgotten. She also requested that you perform a random act of kindness to honor her memory.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 9464 State Rt. 13, Camden NY 13316.
