Obituary of Thomas H. Craig

Thomas H. Craig, Sr., 98, of Rome, passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at Rome Health. Born in Chicago, IL, on December 24, 1924, he was a son of the late John and Anna (Baumann) Craig.

Thomas was a member of Greatest Generation and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. in 1942. He valiantly served his country during World War II and the Korean War and was awarded a Purple Heart. He was Honorably Discharged as Master Sargent in 1956 and came to Griffiss Air Force Base to work for the Rome Air Development Center as a radar engineer.

He is survived by three daughters, Patricia Cummings, Peggy Craig and Carol Jones; three former sons-in-law, Michael C. Cummings, William C. Lynch and Jay R. Jones; five grandchildren, Jessica Cummings, Michael K. Cummings (Bailee), Nichole Blohm, Cannon Lynch and Powers Lynch; four great-grandchildren; longtime family friend, Pamela Zanon; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Thomas H. Craig, Jr.; his former wife, Renate Craig; and seven brothers and sisters.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will take place in Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Tom’s memory to a Veterans Organization of your choice.
