Obituary of Roland O. Congden

Please share a memory of Roland to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Roland O Congden passed from this world to perfect peace with Christ on September 5, 2023. Wrought with health problems in the last years of his life, he desired to go home.

Born September 3, 1953 to Clinton and Elinor Congden, Roland grew up attending Camden schools while enjoying life on the farm. In high school he lettered in football, wrestling, and track, graduating in 1972. He attended two years of college at Taylor University in Upland, Indiana, competing on their football and wrestling teams. He later attended SUNY Alfred for audio visual technology.

Roland worked a variety of jobs through the years: Losurdo’s in Blossvale, Marsellus Casket in Syracuse, Rentown in Texas, Clark’s Petroleum in Oneida, for Karl Keil in home construction, and finally K&S Lumber in Camden. His also cared for his parents in his later work years.

Roland was pre-deceased by his parents, and infant brothers, Roy and Ronald. He is survived by his siblings: Jeanne Rice, Jeri & Robert Kaier, Steven & Kimberly Congden, Hebe & David Phillips, and Joel & Deborah Congden.

Roland may not have compiled a long resume of worldly accomplishments, but in the hearts of his many nieces and nephews, he was the most fun uncle the world had ever known. He took time for them, made each feel special, and was intentional in being there for the important moments in their lives.

There are no services planned, just a family gathering, as he desired not to have attention brought to himself, in life or in death.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
