Obituary of Jerome M. Witter

Jerome M. “Jerry” Witter, 77, of Constantia and formerly of Addison, NY, passed away on Friday, September 1, 2023, at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Utica, NY. Born in Wellsboro, PA, on October 7, 1945, he was a son of the late Francis and Florence (Gowdy) Witter. He was a graduate of Addison (NY) High School, earned a Bachelor of Arts from Cornell University and a Master’s in Education from the University of Wisconsin. On July 20, 1968, he was united in marriage to Shirley Derick. She passed away in 2021.

Jerry taught Conservation at BOCES in Steuben County (NY) for several years. He was a member of the Addison Grange and United Methodist Church of Addison. He enjoyed playing senior league softball for many years.

Jerry is survived by two daughters, Annette Edwards and Lisa Newhard (John); a son, Gary Witter (Laycel); two sisters, Mary Witter and Donna Knowles; a brother, Don Witter (Janice); seven grandchildren, Lecy, Krystle, Rosalynd, Jeremy, Isaac, Charlie and James; and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 8th at 1:00 p.m. at 470 County Rt. 37, Central Square, NY, 13036. There are no calling hours.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, NY 13440.
