Obituary of Raymond John Hryckewicz, Sr.

Raymond John Hryckewicz, Sr., of Westernville, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 23, 2023. Born in Vernon Center, NY, on August 20, 1939, he was a son of the late John and Evaneta (Hofford) Hryckewicz. He was educated in Rome and Holland Patent Schools. On April 18, 1959, he was united in marriage to Ruth Ward in the Church of the Annunciation in Clarks Mills and officiated by Rev. Dee.  She passed away September 4, 2009.

Ray worked for Utica Radiator and later the City of Rome, where he retired from after 34 years in 1995.

Ray was a member of the Point Rock Fish and Game Club, Carmichael Hill Game Club, Sons of the American Legion in Westernville and Rome Boat Club. He also ran Carmichael Hill Cemetery for several years.

Ray is survived by a daughter, Kimberly Bonvicino; a son, Timothy Hryckewicz; two brothers, Warren (Joanie) and John Hryckewicz; three grandchildren, Vanessa Bonvicino, Ronald Bonvicino and Sam Hryckewicz; four great-granchildren; half-siblings, John Stedman (Gert), James Stedman, Bill Davis and Jeanne Geary; his lady friend, Sheila; sisters-in-law, Lolita Ward and Kathy Hryckewicz; and several nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by two sons, Raymond Jr. and Clayton; a sister, Joan Nellenbach; and a half-sister, Suzanna Boika; brothers-in-law, John, Frank and Michael Ward; and sister-in-law, Joan Townsend. 

Ray’s family would like to thank all of his Drs. and nurses, especially Tim Fisher P.A., Dr. Detraglia and Stacey, Hospice and Palliative Care, and his special nurses, Alexis, Debbie and Cindy, for their wonderful care during his illness.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August, 29^th,  at 10:00 a.m. at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome NY 13440. Interment will take place in Carmichael Hill Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Monday, August 28^th, from 4-7:00 p.m.
