Obituary of Susan G. Chandler

Susan G. Chandler, 73 of Ava, NY passed away on Monday, July 31 after a battle with Parkinson’s Disease. She was born in Oneida, NY, on March 9, 1950, a daughter of the late Earl W. and Phyllis (Hatch) Powers. She graduated from Vernon-Verona Sherill with the class of 1968. After graduation, she had a lengthy career as a paralegal first in San Francisco, California and then practiced many years with David Rapke in Rome, NY.

Susan was predeceased in 2017 by her husband; and the love of her life, Gregory D. Chandler. Gregory and Susan had a joint love of horses and built a beautiful horse stable in Durhamville, NY. For many years, they loved to host an annual Christmas Chandler Stable party, enjoyed watching the teaching of young riders, and while they owned and boarded many different breeds of horses, Susan owned and had a huge affection and love for ‘ the black pearls”, Friesians.

Susan was predeceased by her son, Lance Jay Eddy on January 24, 1992. Lance was the light of her life and she missed him very much over these past 32 years. She was predeceased by her eldest brother Earl “Wayne” Powers, Jr.  She is survived by her sister Janice E. Powers of Santee, California. Also surviving are her like-daughter, and son-in law; Joseph A. and Angela Mooney, Jr of Ava, NY. Their three children (her surrogate grandchildren), Frank and Stephanie Fancher of Marcy; Chase and EllieLynn “Ellie-Belle” Winegard of Warnerville, NY; and Joseph A. Mooney, III of Ava, NY.

Upon Susan’s request, there are no calling hours. Susan was well cared for at home by some amazing caregivers over the last almost 5 months. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to each of these beautiful women. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Susan’s name to The Rome Abraham House 417 N .Washington St., Rome, NY 13440.
