Obituary of Neil B. McBride

Neil Brady McBride, 94, beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away on Friday, July 28, 2023. He left a legacy of an honorable 27-year service in the US Air Force, retiring as CMSGT, after which he started a fishing charter business on Lake Ontario, and was also postmaster in Stittville. His love of the outdoors brought him on countless hunting and fishing adventures from which legendary stories were born.   He was united in marriage on September 9, 1950 with the love of his life Joan McBride and enjoyed a wonderful 65-year marriage until her passing on September 21, 2015. They enjoyed many adventures that carried them to all 50 states. To know him was to love him.

He is survived by his loving daughter Julie McBride (Tom Hovey), his treasured grandchildren Madeline Mason, Lindsey Johnston (Jordan Johnston), Jordan Doolittle (Liz Doolittle), Taylor Doolittle, Brandin, Clifford and Haley McBride, and his 6 beautiful great grandchildren whom he loved with all of his heart: Callum, Liam, and Scarlet Johnston, and Brayden, Rowan and Teagan Doolittle. He is also survived by many loving family members in Pennsylvania where he grew up. We’d like to extend our sincere gratitude to Laura Shunk for her care and support in his last years.
He was pre-deceased by his wife, Joan McBride, his oldest daughter Mary Jo McBride (Mason), and his son Michael McBride. 

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 11^th at 1:00 p.m. at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome NY 13440. Family and friends are invited to call at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, NY 13440, on Friday, August 11^th prior to the service form 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Interment with Military Honors will be held in Townsend Cemetery in Stittville. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Neil’s memory to the Floyd Fire Department or Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc.
