Obituary: Ellen J. Kotary, 73, of Rome, passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at Rome Memorial Hospital. She was born on April 26, 1935, in Rome, the daughter of Stephen and Lena Mae Smith Barnes. She was a graduate of Rome Free Academy, Class of 1954. On October 8, 1958, she was united in marriage to James J. Kotary in Ft. Benning, GA.
She was employed by the Rome City School District for over twenty years.
Ellen was a member of St. Peter's Church.
Surviving besides her loving husband of forty-nine years, James; are a daughter, Julie Weigand, of Buffalo; a son, James S. Kotary, of Rome; a brother, Stephen G. Barnes, of Bendersville, PA; a sister-in-law, Hely Barnes, of Fairfax, VA; two grandsons, James S. Kotary, Jr. and Zachary W. Kotary; a special friend Celia "Cedie" Bohn, of Rome; her dog, Buddy; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Ellen was predeceased by a sister, Mary Elizabeth Barnes.
Funeral services will be held at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, on Friday, July 11, 2008, at 1:15 PM and a Mass of the Christian Burial at St. Peter's Church at 2:00 PM where the Rev. Philip A. Hearn will officiate. Interment will take place in St. Peter's Cemetery. Family and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.
