Michael (Mike) Mahoney, 72, of Oriskany, New York, died Friday April 6, 2007 in Faxton-St. Luke's Hospital Healthcare, New Hartford, New York after a brief illness with Acute Leukemia. He was born January 20, 1935, in Rome, the son of John and Margaret Conners Mahoney. Mr. Mahoney was educated in Rome Free Academy. On June 2, 1956, he married Marian Gawarecki in Rome. Mike was employed by the United States Government for thirty-five years retiring in 1986. He was a member of St. Peter's Church, life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Stanwix Men's Club. He was also a member and Past Commander of the Parkhurst American Legion, life member of the Brooksville, FL, Knights of Columbus and its 4th Degree Assembly, a member of the 40&8 Oneida County Voiture No. 92, and a member of the Oneida Elks Lodge. Surviving besides his wife of almost 51 years, are three daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Tom Roman, Oriskany; Laurie and Eric Hoegler, Ashburn, VA, and Kellie and Kent Wasser, Arnold, MD; one sister and brother-in-law, Sally and Bill Frankey, Rome; one brother and sister-in-law, John and Rose Mahoney, Anchorage, AK; and five grandchildren, Matthew, Stephen, Megan, Benjamin and Samuel. He was predeceased by one son, Michael R. Mahoney, who died in 1963. Mike's family wishes to express their gratitude to the 6th Floor Staff at Faxton- St. Luke's Healthcare, especially Gail Massaro who exemplifies relationship-based care, Virginia Gigliotti his primary nurse, Judy Romanowski his night-care attendant, Dr. Samir Desai and Dr. Chris Clark. Funeral services will be held at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George Street, Rome Wednesday at 11:15A.M. and St. Peter's Church at 12:00P.M. Interment will take place in St. Peter's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 4:00P.M. to 7:00P.M. Contributions may be made in Mike's memory to St. Peter's Church Memorial Fund. Services: Funeral services will be held at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George Street, Rome Wednesday at 11:15A.M. and St. Peter's Church at 12:00P.M. Interment will take place in St. Peter's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 4:00P.M. to 7:00P.M.
