Obituary: James G. Wiley, 79, of Rome, died Saturday February 17, 2007, in Betsy Ross Rehabilitation Center after a long illness. He was born July 27, 1927, in Rome, the son of Dewey and Geraldine Johnson Wiley. He was educated in Rome schools. On September 25, 1948, he married Helen Domagal in Transfiguration Church.
Jim worked at Griffiss Air Force Base for over 30 years, retiring in 1973.
He served in the US Army in Germany during World War II.
Jim was a member, usher and trustee at Transfiguration Church and was a lifetime member of the Rome Polish Home.
Mr. Wiley's family would like to express their gratitude to Reverend William Gleba , Monsignor Peter Gleba, and the staff at Betsy Ross for the care and compassion shown to him during his stay there.
Surviving besides his wife, are a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and John Quinn, Whitesboro; son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Mary Ellen, Fayetteville; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Arnold (Gene) and Pat Johnson, Rome, Francis and Lois Wiley, Rome, and Richard and Nadine Wiley, Madison; his aunt, Pearl Johnson, Boonville; seven grandchildren, Anthony, Lisa and J.J. (Meghan) Quinn, Stephen (Desiree), Eric, and Kendra Yakey-Wiley, and Max Bregande; a special sister-in-law, Helen Domagal, Yorkville; a loving nieces, Sandy (Bud) Merrill, Verona, and Marilyn (Tom) Palinski; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jim was predeceased by a son, Dean Michael, and two sisters, Marion Hoffmeister and Mary Swift.
Funeral services will be held at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., on Thursday at 12:30pm and Transfiguration Church at 1pm. Interment will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 11am to 12:30pm In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jim's memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association or Transfiguration Church Memorial Fund.
