Obituary:Emilia (Emily) Tyburski Vaccaro, 85, of Rome, died February 14, 2007, in Rome Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. She was born August 25, 1921 in Nanticoke, PA, the daughter of Jon and Bertha Andros Tyburski. She graduated from Nanticoke High School. On November 15, 1942, she married Joseph Albert Vaccaro at the Bowling Field Chapel in Washington, DC. He died September 19, 2004.
Emily was employed with the Federal Government at the Pentagon in Washington, DC, and Griffiss Air Force Base, from which she retired in 1973.
Mrs. Vaccaro was a communicant at St. John the Baptist Church and was an active member of the South Rome Senior Center and the AARP.
Emily was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be remembered for always putting her family first; she will be greatly missed.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and R. Joseph Jalbert, Rome; granddaughter and her husband, Caroline and Mauricio Quezada, Fairfax, VA; great grandchildren, Daniel and Alysia Quezada, Fairfax, VA; sister, Helen Shipkowski, Nanticoke, PA; brother-in-law, Albert Wisher, San Diego, CA; and several nieces and nephews. Emily was predeceased by a sister, Mary Tyburski Wisher; brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Bernadine Tyburski; brother-in-law, Paul Shipkowski; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Peter and Katherine Vaccaro Pace, Sr.; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Samuel and Louise Vaccaro Falzarano.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, at 10am and St. John the Baptist Church at 10:30am. Interment will take place in Rome Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-4pm only. Contributions in Emily's memory may be made to the American Heart Association or the Salvation Army.
