Obituary: Olga Drumluk Gilleland, 87, of Rome, died January 27, 2007, in Rochester General Hospital. She was born July 29, 1919, in Rome, the daughter of Nicholas and Pauline Oskirko Drumluk. In 1937 she graduated from Rome Free Academy. She was the wife of John A. Gilleland who died March 12, 1998.
Olga worked at the Rome Developmental Center for over 30 years, retiring in 1980. She was a member of the Zion Episcopal Church.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law: Barbara and Richard Alessi, Buffalo, NY and Jacqueline and Donald Shultz, Bloomfield, NY; two sisters, Nadzia Sturbin, and Mary Stacklick, of Rome; seven grandchildren: Drs. Richard (Grace) Alessi, Fort Collins, CO, Liane (Michael) Miller, Romeo, MI, John (Gwen) Alessi, Amherst, NY, Matthew (Jill) Alessi, Marilla, NY, Mark Alessi, Fort Collins, CO, Robert Shultz, Houston, TX, and Aimee Shultz, Wrentham, MA: nine great- grandchildren: Sophia, Isabella and Lucas Alessi, Fort Collins, CO, Michael, Maxwell and Alana Miller, Romeo, MI, John A. Alessi, Jr., Amherst, NY, and Mateo and Brooklyn Alessi, Marilla, NY; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers and sisters-in-law: Nicholas (Emily) Drumluk, Alexander (Ferdinanda) Drumluk, Walter (Julia) Dremluk, Nicholas Sturbin, William Stacklick, and Gladys (Gordon) Whyte.
Olga will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She received great pleasure being actively involved in the lives of her family members. Her hobbies included reading, gardening and creating photo albums. She touched the lives of all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 am at the Zion Episcopal Church. Interment will take place in Greenlawn Cemetery, New Hartford. Friends may call at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, on Tuesday from 3-7pm and Wednesday from 9-10 am.
