Obituary: Guy Calandra, Sr., 56, of 726 South James Street passed away on January 31, 2006.
He was born on January 23, 1950 in Vicari, Palermo, Sicily the son of the late
Maria and Salvatore Calandra.
Guy came to the United States on December 27, 1957 with his mother Maria and brother Anthony. They came to join his father, Salvatore and brother Frank who had come to America two years previous.
He was joined in marriage by Sharron Fenton in 1970. Guy loved Sharron (Shar) more than life itself. They were blessed with over thirty-five years of marriage. They spent there last night together on January 15, 2006, a night which so many will never forget.
Guy was drafted into the U. S. Army in 1972 and served his country until June 14, 1974 when he was honorably discharged. He then worked at Rome Cable before leaving to work at Morrisville College. He retired in 2004.
Guy really enjoyed the simple things in life, lived it to the fullest, and always lived the right way. He loved fishing, the horses, playing cards, sports and playing pig with the boys from DeMatteo's.
He is survived by his wife Sharron, son and daughter-in-law, Guy and Aaron Calandra, cherished twin granddaughters, Chase and Shannen Calandra (the babies) and son, Matthew Calandra, four brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank and Brenda Calandra, Nino and Sue Calandra, George and Cheryl Calandra, Sam Calandra and Sheri LaGreco,Barbara and Robin Calandra. Guy is survived by his father and mother-in-law, who were mom and dad to him, Frederick and Dianne Fenton, three sisters-in-law and four brothers-in-law, Joanne Burtchell, Cathy and Frank Blockston, Patty and Bob Graham, Danny Fenton and Frederick Fenton, Jr., in addition Guy is survived by four nephews and eight nieces, Guy Michael, Frank, Michael, Anthony Calandra, Kelly Walker, Heather and Carrie Graham, Nicolina Calandra, Bonnie Jo, Nicole and Kimberly Burtchell , Samantha Calandra., seven great nephews and nieces, many cousins, as well as many special friends, Murray and Palma Vinneau, Dave Rizzo, Joe Bartlolotti, Lenny Costello, Carmen Favata, Sr., Cathy LaGreco, Rosalee Oliver, Nemo
Lamascola and many more. Guy is also survived by three uncles, Matteo, Salvatore and Joseph Rizzo, Aunt Mary Calandra and many other relatives who live in Palermo, Sicily and Niagara Falls.
Guy will always be remembered for his smile, kind heart and unconditional love for everyone! Everyone loved and respected Guy and he will never know how much he is going to be missed by all of his family and friends. There is no words to explain the pain we feel. We love you dad.
Funeral services will be held at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George Street, Rome , Thursday 7:00P.M. Interment St. Peter's Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday 4:00P.M. to 7:00P.M.
