Obituary: Elmer R. Tate, 69, of Main St., Westernville, died July 1, 2006 at his residence after a brief illness. He was born February 5, 1937 in George's Township, PA, a son of Charles and Emily Clark Tate. He was educated in George's Township. On December 31, 1969, he married Linda Orendorff in San Diego, CA. She died March 22, 1994.
Elmer served in the U. S. Navy for over twenty years, including time in Vietnam. He retired from the Navy in 1974. He later worked for several area construction firms and was, with his wife, a former owner of the Westernville Hotel.
Mr. Tate was a member of the VFW and the Henry P. Smith Post, American Legion.
Surviving are seven sisters, Viola McDonough, Salina and William Brant, Loretta DeLorenzo, all of Uniontown, PA, Juanita and Frank Bartok, Strongsville, Ohio, Linda and Ed Makepeace, Perryopolis, PA, Rose Barnhart, Uniontown, PA, and Clara and Thomas Hanzes, Greenville, Pa; one brother, Robert and Shelvia Hollis, Uniontown, PA; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Marge Victor, and a brother, Gerald Tate.
Funeral services will be held at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, 418 N. George St., Thursday 10:30 a.m. Interment Westernville Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
