(Al) Beers, 81, of 2107 Forester Way, Spring Hill, Florida, formerly of Rome, New York, died Monday, May 15, 2006 at his residence after a brief illness. He was born November 12, 1924 in Walton, New York the son of Howard and LuCinda Woods Beers. Al was a graduate of Rome Free Academy. In 1962 he married Elsie O'Neil in Rome. Mr. Beers was an Independent Truck Driver for twenty-five years retiring in 1979 and was previously employed at Revere Copper and Brass for several years. He was a veteran of the United States Army in the 101 Airborne serving during World War II in the European Theatre. Mr. Beers was a member of the Henry P. Post of the American Legion, the VFW, Rome Moose Lodge, Masonic Hathaway Lodge and the Rome Sports Hall of Fame. Al was a natural athlete and excelled in Basketball, Softball, Billiards and especially golf, he had made 10 hole-in-ones. Surviving besides his wife are three daughters and a son-in-law, Pamela Christopher, Ohio, Cynthia and David Cohen, Rome, Carolyn Owens, Boston, four sons and three daughters-in-law, Gary , Washington; Marcus and Ellen California; William and Kim , Rome; Joseph and Laurie , Blossvale; one sister, Esther Boddy, Wauchula, Florida; one brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Martha Beers, Ogden, Utah, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorial Services will be held at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George Street, Rome Saturday, June 24, 2006 at 7pm. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 4-7pm.
