While in school she was active in gymnastics, bowling and cheerleading. In 1961 she received the strangest phone call, it was the wrong number but definitely the right connection. This is how she met her best friend, her confident, soul mate. Prudy married Greg Ellinger on November 24, 1967. The two of them then started their dream together. In 1972 Greg and Prudy started their successful business, Greg Ellinger Collision. While doing this she raised four wonderful children. Prudy was an active member of the Hemlock Twigs, secretary of Weed-n-Seed and president of Zonta, in addition she was a member of the Rome Chamber of Commerce and the Rome Rotary Club. She has done many wonderful things for the city, which she loved. Prudy was a graduate of the 1st. Rome Civilian Police Academy . In June of 2005 she was diagnosed with lung cancer. Instead of lying down to the disease she stepped up and fought with a smile. Prudy passionately raised money and supported the feel good room at Mohawk Valley Dr. Shicker's office. The only room of its kind in the area. This room is where cancer patients can go and study their disease and receive a free make over, with wigs and make-up. She believed that looking your best through your illness was important to the soul and spirit. Prudy is survived by her wonderful, devoted husband, Greg P. Ellinger and four loving children and spouses: John and Carolyn Schwartz Ellinger, Greg Ellinger, Jr. and Vicki Burch, David and Rhonda Ellinger Congden, Jeff and Sonya Coffin Ellinger, all of Rome;three sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol and Sal Muratore, Ceil and Joe Hluska and Lori Ramsdale and fiancé, David Paine, all of Rome; One brother, Joe Favata and fiancé Nancy Wonders of Saratoga Springs; one brother-in-law, Frank Ellinger, California, two sisters-in-law, Maureen and Diane Ellinger, both of Rome and eight adoring grandchildren: Stephen, Carissa, Amberlyn, Brianna, Kaitlyn, Megan, Craig Ellinger and Allison Congden.
