Name: Arthur R. "Art" Garlinton, Jr. Date of Death: Saturday, April 21, 2007 Residence: Rome, NY Age: 81 Obituary: Arthur R. (Art) Garlington, Jr., 81, of Rome, died April 21, 2007, in Rome Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He was born August 8, 1925, in Rogers, AR, the son of Arthur and Alma Boyd Garlington, Sr. He was educated in Pawnee, OK, schools and was a graduate of the Air Force Institute of Technology. On October 12, 1950, he married Claire Cournoyer in Chicopee, MA. Art served in the US Air Force for twenty-five years, including tours in the Vietnam Conflict, and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1968 from RADC in Rome. He later worked for Bartell Machinery, Revere Copper and Brass Co. and Spargo Wire. Mr. Garlington was active in the Boy Scouts of America all of his life. He was also an avid golfer and was a member at Teugega Country Club. Surviving besides his wife are five sons and four daughters-in-law, Arthur III and Vickie of Sterlington, LA, Jerry of Monroe, LA, Ray and Patty of Chapel Hill, NC, Michael and Dawn of Ava, and David and Debra of Martinez, GA; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Noreen and Ken Harden of Fittstown, OK, and Jackie and Lance Wise of St. Louis, MO; eleven grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Services: Funeral service will be held on Friday at 7pm at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome. Interment will take place in Arlington National Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4-7pm. Contributions may be made in Art's memory to the Boy Scouts of America or the American Cancer Society.
