Ferguson, 71, of 7664 Watson Hollow Road, Rome, died Wednesday, April 11, 2007 in Rome Memorial Hospital after a long illness. He was born March 9, 1936 in Rome the son of Merritt and Pauline Rieck Ferguson. Paul was educated in the Rome school system, graduating in 1955. During his high school years, he supplied artistic works for the schools year books and enjoyed the "Great Outdoors". Hunting, fishing, trapping, canoeing and camping, this was a love he carried through out his life. On May 25, 1957 he married Joan Jenkins in Rome. He and his wife Joan, have been blessed with a loving and happy union. The other great love of his life was his Irish Setters. Paul bred and handled over 30 Irish Setters to their American and Canadian Championships. His kennel name is SHANIBYL IRISH SETTERS. Paul and Joan were active in the Central New York Kennel Club, where they sat on the Board of Directors and held the offices of President and Show Chairman. They traveled to dog shows extensively over most of the north/eastern US and Canada. Paul was employed at the Mohawk Valley Psychiatric Center for thirty-two years, retiring on March 28, 1991. Surviving besides his wife are three daughters and a son-in-law, Paula Ferguson and her significant other, James Moore, Rome; Donna Ferguson and her husband Whitney Martens, Cooperstown; Diane Ferguson, Bradenton, Florida; two sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Lisa Ferguson, Newport, New York; Christopher and Eunice Ferguson, Ossining and nine grandchildren, Matthew, Michael, Philip, Andrew, Stephanie, Hannah, Caitlin, Liam and Aidan. Services: Funeral services will be held at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome Monday at 11am. Interment Alder Creek Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4-7pm.
