Obituary: Henry L. (Hank) Gordecki, 88, James St., Rome, died March 4, 2007 at Stonehedge Nursing Home, after a long illness. He was born May 21, 1918 in Rome, a son of Anthony and Julia Troscinski Gordecki. Hank was educated in Rome schools. On July 20, 1984, he married Joan Monette in Rome. She died September 23, 1993. He later married Genevieve Delair DeCoste. She died in 2002.
Mr. Gordecki worked at Rome Cable for forty-one years, retiring in 1978. He served in the US Navy during WW II, the European and Pacific Theatres. Hank was a member of Transfiguration Church, the VFW, Steczko Post, Ukrainian Club, and the Polish Home. Hank loved trout fishing.
Surviving are two step-daughters and spouses, Linda and Danny McCarter, Winfield, Alabama, Karen and Russell Proper, Taberg; one step-son, Wade C. Wheadon, Rome; one sister, Tessie Gordecki, Rome; ten grandchildren, Christopher, Kevin, Shelby, Eric, Bobby, Danielle, Brian, Kenny, Katrina, and Tasha; four great-grandchildren; and special friends, Neddie and Louise DeFreeze, Rome. He was predeceased by two stepsons, Fred and Ken Wheadon; two sisters, Stephanie Sterling and Helen Petryszyn; and five brothers, Pete, Faye, Stan, Joe and Nick Gordecki.
Services: Funeral services will be held at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
