Obituary:Felix G. Czerski, 81, of Rome, died February 23, 2006 at his home after a two year battle with cancer. He was born September 8, 1924 in Moundsville, WV, the son of Felix and Amelia Czerski. He was a graduate of Boonville High School. On July 2, 1949 he married Klara Bunal in Transfiguration Church.
Felix worked for the Oneida County Highway Department for several years, retiring in 1985. He was a member and usher at Transfiguration Church. Felix was also a President and Vice President of the Rome Polish Home and the Polish Independent Club for several years, as well as a proud member of the Utica Polka League.
Surviving besides his wife are two daughters and sons-in-law, Renee and Ronald Mannella, Westmoreland, and Karen and Jim Tomasi, Stockbridge, GA; one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Judy, Mt. Ephraim, NJ; six grandchildren, Alexandria, Samantha, Claire, Gary Jr., Sam, and Olivia "Smiley"; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four sisters, Louise Dybitkowski, Josephine Walters, Lillian Kulick, and Helen Bonsel, and three brothers, Walter, Leo and Stanley.
Felix's family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Richard Cherny, Dr.. Richard Sullivan and to all the Hospice staff for the kindness and compassion shown to him during his illness.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, at 9:15am and Transfiguration Church at 10am. Interment will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 3-6pm. In lieu of flowers,` contributions in Felix's memory may be made to the Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., or the Transfiguration Church Memorial Fund.
