Birmingham, 89, formerly of Rome, died Friday, November 25, 2005, in Valencia Hills Nursing Home, Lakeland, FL, after a brief illness. Mrs. Birmingham was born February 13, 1916 in Copenhagen, NY, the daughter of Harry E. and Ethel Murphy Smith. She was a graduate of Rome Free Academy and Faxton Hospital School of Nursing. Mildred married George Fullmer on March 10, 1945 in England. She later married Francis A. Birmingham on June 20, 1959 in Baltimore, MD. He died in 1994. Mrs. Birmingham worked for Rome Developmental Center for 32 years, retiring in 1974. She previously worked at several area hospitals, including Rome Hospital. Mildred served in the US Army Nursing Corps in the European Theatre during World War II. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Donald Rocker, Lakeland, FL; three granddaughters and their spouses, Dawn and John Wade, Lakeland, FL, Danilyn and Todd Forman, Oneonta, NY, Dana and Michael Sobrado, Mesa, AZ; six great-grandchildren, Ashley, Jenna and Jordan Wade, Taylor and Aaron Forman, and Ciara Sobrado; and one nephew, Roger and Nancy Smith, Rome. Graveside services will be held at Rome Cemetery at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Birmingham may be made to Hospice, Inc. Arrangements by the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St. Services: Graveside services will be held at Rome Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
