Marie Norton, 85, formerly of Pazdur Blvd. South, Rome, New York, died Thursday, November 24, 2005 in Betsy Ross Rehabilitation Center after a long illness. She was born February 9, 1920, in Rome the daughter of Charles and Minnie Affolter Bartlett. She was a graduate of Rome Free Academy. On April 10, 1953 she married Clayton Norton in Rome. He died March 11, 1996. Marie was employed at Revere Copper and Brass for over thirty-five years, retiring in 1982. Mrs. Norton was a member of the Bartlett Baptist Church, the Daughters of the American Revolution, Rome Historical Society, Henry P. Smith Post American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. As a young woman, Marie was a well-known roller skater who performed professionally in the Rome-Utica area for several years. She was also an avid bowler and golfer. Surviving are one niece, Janice Patzold, Bethel, Connecticut; sister-in-law, Ethel Martel, Plainville, Connecticut; close friend, Dorothy Walker and several cousins, including two special cousins, Gerard Freeman, West Virginia, and Garth Freeman, California. Funeral services will be held at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George Street, Rome, Monday at 10:30am. Interment Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday 3:00P.M. to 6:00P.M. Contributions may be made in Marie's memory to the Rome Historical Society or the Bartlett Baptist Church.
