Obituary:Kathryn E. (Kay) Hoffmeister, 87, Route 233, Rome, died November 8, 2005 at her residence, after a brief illness. She was born May 17, 1918 in Canastota, a daughter of William and Frieda Sattler Bowers. Kay was educated in Rome schools.
On June 27, 1942, she married Frank J. Hoffmeister, in St. Mary's Church. He died May 19, 1994. Mrs. Hoffmeister was a member of St. Mary's Church for 87 years, and a teacher of catholic education for ten years at Annunciation Church. Kay also was a Room Mother at Westmoreland School; an auxiliary member of Stanwix Heights VFD; and a Boy and Girl Scout Leader. She was also an avid bowler, belonged to the Westmoreland Senior Citizen and the Polka Club.
Surviving are one daughter Patricia A. Risley, Austin, Texas; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Richard P. Hoffmeister, Westmoreland, NY, Thomas E. and Leslie Hoffmeister, Boston, MA; one brother, Jack Bowers; four sisters and one brother-in-law, Evelyn Horn, Emma Marsh, Freida and Bill Hickey and Betty Jane Ernst; Eight Grandchildren, Karen and Timothy Mathis, Kathie and Christopher Harris, Jennifer Hoffmeister, T. Ryan Hoffmeister, Jill Hoffmeister, Christopher Hoffmeister, Renee' and Sandy Andrews, Michael and Megan Yockey, and Derrick Fedor, spouse of Kimberly; six great-grandchildren, Emily Mathis, Cody Mathis, Rachael Fedor, Kevin Fedor, Erik Harris and Meagan Harris; and several nieces including a special niece, Joan Wittman, nephews and special friends, Bonnie McCarthy and Charlotte Young. Kay was predeceased by her husband, Frank, a special granddaughter, Kimberly Ann Fedor; her sister Margaret Murphy and brother, Paul Bowers.
The family would like to express special thanks to Betty McCarthy, Rosemarie Roy, Becky Hunt, Colleen King, Sandy, Penny and Cindy from Hospice, Bonnie McCarthy, Joan Wittman, Dr. Maynard and Charlotte Young for the care and compassion shown to Kay.
Funeral services will be held Friday from Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St. at 8:45am and at St. Mary's Church at 9:30 am. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Contributions in Kay's memory may be made to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital, Syracuse.
