Obituary:Earl A. (The Pearl) Drake, 64, of Rome, died April 2, 2007 at his residences after a long illness. He was born June 6, 1942, in Rome, the son of Glenard and Marguerite Kerber Drake. He was educated in Rome schools. On December 5, 1970, he married Ruth Merchant.
Earl worked for nineteen years at the Rome Developmental Center.
Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Crystal Roberts and Valerie Drake, of Rome; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Earl (Hector) and Marcie Brower, Timothy Drake, and Rodney and Pauline Drake, all of Rome; six sisters and two brothers-in-law, Hazel Loften, of DeRider, LA, Helen Conover, of Rome, Geraldine and Joseph Fregetta, of Rome, Janice and Earl Murphy, of Lee Center, Carol Wintershed, of Winter Haven, FL, and Winifred Chriss, of Holly Springs, NC; five brothers and two sisters-in-law, Glen Drake, of Rome, Alfred Drake, of Sanford, FL, Joseph and Christine Drake, of Holly Springs, NC, Philip and Son Drake, of El Paso, TX, and Robert Lewis, of Rome; twelve grandchildren, Michael, Heather, Amber, Brandon, Justin, Delorian, Andrew, Alison, Alexis, Holly, Nathan, and Morgan; special friends, Karen, Carl and Jimmy (his Gumba), and his very best friend, Lonnie Johnson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Earl was predeceased by a grandson, Darian Drake, his mother and father.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:30am at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome. Interment will take place in Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 5-8pm.
