Obituary:Larry D. Bliss, 79, of Jackson, South Carolina, died Saturday, January 20, 2007.
He was born January 20, 1928 in Troupsburg, New York the son of Melvin
And Mildred Harrington Bliss.
Mr. Bliss was married to Dorothy Rose Gorski.
Mr. Bliss has resided in Jackson, South Carolina for the past twenty-eight years.
He was a retired Construction Superintendent overseeing the construction of
Silver Bluff High School, the Hollingsworth Rehabilitation Center, Columbiana
Mall and many other significant buildings. In 1979 Mr. Bliss was instrumental in
Building the Waste Water Treatment Plant in Rome.
Mr. Bliss was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church, Jackson and
taught Sunday School at many other churches. He was a Gideon and served in
prison ministry. Mr. Bliss was a Mason and the Past Master of the McClellan Lodge
#649 AFM, Troupsburg, New York.
Surviving besides his wife, three sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas and Sally
Bliss, Randolph, New York; Dale and Patricia Bliss, Grover, Missouri; Larry Dean and
Manuela Bliss, Canisteo; four daughters and sons-in-law, JoAnn and David Detwiler,
Appling, Georgia; Carol and Glenn Streeter, Martinez, Georgia; Irene Osborn, Canisteo;
And Mary Jane and Bruce Wallmann Rochester, New York; two step-daughters and
Sons-in-law, Sharon and Rodney Fike, Fort Payne, AL and Cynthia and Kenneth
Holberger, Grafton, MA; four sisters, Betty Wheaton, Dansville, NY; Audrey Stepanian
(Michael) Hornell, NY, Judy Ridgway (Joseph), Syracuse; Bonnie Cady (Dennis),
Montour Falls, NY, six brothers, Earl Bliss (Virginia), Clearfield, PA; Roy Bliss
(Eileen), Arling Carl Bliss (Jeannine), William Bliss (Dolores), all of Troupsburg,
a brother-in-law, Theodore L. Gorski (Frances), Rome, NY; a sister-in-law. Joan
Steve (Joseph), Oneida, NY; 13 grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren, 8 great
grandchildren, 2 step-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. He was
Predeceased by a grandson, David Cunningham.
Funeral services will be held at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc.,
418 N. George Street Friday 10:30A.M. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home 4:00P.M. to 7:00P.M. Thursday.
