Zakala, 87, of 4948 Rome-New London Road, Rome, New York died Friday, July 22, 2005 at her residence with her family at her side. She was born August 15, 1917 in Annsville the daughter of Ignatius and Antonia Macheska Broski. Nellie was a graduate of Camden Central High School and attended SUNY at Oswego. On August 31, 1946 she married Michael Zakala in Taberg. Mrs. Zakala was employed at Griffiss Air Force Base for over twenty-five years retiring in 1986. She was a member of St. Mary's Church and the GALS. Surviving besides her husband are three daughters, Diane James, Oriskany; Carol Zakala, Yorba Linda, California; Shirley Zakala, Rome. She was predeceased by four brothers, Joseph, Stanley, Zigmundt, and Henry Broski. Nellie's family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. for the wonderful care and compassion shown to her during her illness. Funeral services will be held at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George Street, Rome, Tuesday at 9:30A.M. and St. Mary's Church at 10:00A.M. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery.
